Why am i so bad at reading comprehension?

Why can't I comprehend what Im reading? Am I going too fast?

I've always had reading comprehension issues...I can't even read the Hobbit .__.

I'm trying to read the Bible since I'm Christian and I read all day and night trying to defeat my mental block but idk why I'm not comprehending stuff..is it just the way of adaptation to 21st century society?
