Which passages should be done first?

by seychelles1718 Tue Jan 30, 2018 11:30 pm

Is there any strategy to determine the order of attempting passages? Or should I just attempt the 4 passages in order?
Also, what should I do when the 2nd or 3rd passage is really difficult, as I have one or two more passage left to do?
For example, when the passage itself is difficult, I think skipping the passage and attempting other passages would be the most efficient strategy.
On the other hand, what should I do when the questions are difficult while the passage itself is pretty straightforward? Should I also just move on to the next passage? I feel like skipping in RC is trickier than in LR...

Thanks!!!

Keep track over time regarding whether you have an obvious strength or weakness when it comes to
ARTS/HUMAN
LAW
PHYS SCI
SOCIAL SCI

Don’t just focus on how it feels; make sure you have some data to back it up. If there’s an obvious weakness there, then consider saving that passage for last, whenever it appears.

I would generally presume I’m going to do the passages in order, but retain a sense of flexibility. If I’m starting a passage and the topic + readability just seems awful, then I would bail right away and try a different one.

If you’ve already read the passage, it would be crazy to bail at that point. If you’re trying the questions and they seem hard, you should still try to take an educated guess while you’re there.

If you feel like you get sucked into thinking for too long about questions that you ultimately get wrong anyway, then make sure you time yourself when you’re doing RC practice.

Set a countdown timer for 8 or 9 mins, and just force yourself to get an educated guess to all the questions on that passage. This helps train us to just keep moving, even when we encounter a question that just kinda stumps us.
