Nope, strengthening the reasoning and strengthening an argument are the same. The argument hinges on the reasoning. There is, however, a subtle difference between those two stems and the "provides the most support for the author's claim" stem. Supporting someone's claim may entail supporting the link between their premise and their conclusion. But it might instead entail adding a piece of additional supporting evidence that's not directly related to the evidence they provided.
