i believe your thinking is flawed b/c the stim doesn't say that the genetic mutation is the only way in which the enzyme is lowered and leads to gum diseases, but that it is simply common. for all we know, there are other, rarer ways to have a low amount of the enzyme, and they could get gum disease...
