2979

I am having trouble figuring out why the incorrect answer is wrong: P: The Acro II, a popular new sports car, has been found to have frequent problems with its electronic braking system. A: A car that has frequent problems with any electronics is not particularly well-made. C1: Some popular new cars...

Re: Q6 - Mathematics teacher: Teaching students

I am still uncertain as to why (A) is the correct answer. First, to make sure, are the premise and conclusion in this argument core both conditionals? I have dissected this stimulus as the following: P: students are taught calculus before they are ready --> abandon study of calculus C: teach calc...

Re: Logic Challenge #5 - The Interviews

If I understood correctly, "no manager may interview consecutive candidates" means that the same manager cannot conduct interviews two times in a row. In other words, if T interviews somebody, then R or S must come next right after him. As for your other question regarding the meaning of, ...

Re: Q22 - Dinosaur expert: Some paleontologists

Can someone please explain to me why (D) isn't a premise booster? The way I see it, "... the earliest bird fossils that have been discovered date back tens of millions of years farther than the oldest known dromeosaur fossil" is a premise. In that sense, I shouldn't contest the facts of th...

Re: Q12 - Critic: A novel cannot be

I got this question correct but reviewing the question, I'm wondering how (A) can be considered a reversal. The first sentence of the stimulus says "most readers" so is it actually possible to call this sentence a conditional statement? Please clarify! Thank you. The first sentence of the...

Re: Q22 - Detective: Laser-printer drums

Regarding answer choice (D), how can we ascertain that the stimulus is only talking about pages with visible marks on the paper? Couldn't it be that we are talking about all pieces of papers with blemishes, regardless of whether or not the blemishes are concealed by ink printed over them? (I underst...

Re: Q6 - The simultaneous and apparently independent

Could someone please explain why (B) is incorrect? I thought that if people had legitimate reasons to fear horses, then it wouldn't be an "unconscious fear".

Re: Q16 - Psychologist: The obligation to express

I understand that passage is structured as the following;
Sentence 1: Conclusion B
Sentence 2: Premise A
Sentence 3: Reasoning A--> B.

Could it be possible, in other scenarios, that the reasoning could actually serve as a conclusion?

Thanks for your response, Tommy.
I just realized my mistake! I think I misread B-- I see why A is correct, thank you!

Re: Q5

For (E), is it too far of a stretch to say that although distribution costs are "eliminated" (l.34), technically this idea of distribution and the cost of distribution are being accounted for in the CMC, since the customers are coming out of their way to harvest, collect and transport thei...

Re: Q3

(B) is wrong, since line 19 says, "chronic insomnia". "occasional bouts" is very different from "chronic". Moreover, insomnia could be a symptom of another disease, not necessarily just CJD. So, just because a patient has insomnia, we cannot decide that he/she has CJD.

Re: Q15 - Amoebas, like human beings...

I see that A matches the stimulus almost perfectly. One thing that bothered me was was the last part of the conclusion in (A), "All artists must have lower inhibitions than most people have." Is this part completely irrelevant? It feels like its adding an element that doesn't exist in the ...

Re: Q12 Rule Substitution

I approached this game by drawing out the frames first. With all the conditions, you can pretty much get down to 4 frames. T R Q V S S R Q V T R (Q/S) V (Q/S) T (Q/S) R V (Q/S) T It's hard to tell immediately since the frames I drew above aren't properly aligned, but you will see that V only goes in...
