Re: Q2 - Having an efficient, attractive subway

I also don't know how to diagram the first premise, and the conclusion. The second premise is (what makes good economic sense) --> (should always do). "Should always" indicates the necessary condition. My guess for the first premise is (having an efficient subway system) ---> (make g...

Re: Q16 - Environmentalist: Many people prefer

I am not sure the meaning of "only until" in (A). I guess (A) would mean the same thing without the word "only," basically "only until" has the same meaning of "until"?

Re: strengthen/weaken

Thanks! However, in the MLSAT LR book, page 237 and page 255, saying the questions on those pages don't have a core, only the conclusion... I guess I should have stated that what I am asking is rare question in the LSAT (as stated in the MLSAT LR book).

strengthen/weaken

Hello, I have a question regarding how to approach strengthen/weaken questions that ask to strengthen/weaken some claim/conclusion instead of the argument . For example, PT43, S2, Q8 PT37, S2, Q20 I guess if there is no argument, there are more possibilities to strengthen/weaken some claim/conclusio...

diagramming complex sentences

I need help to confirm my understanding is correct. "Independent arbitration would avert a strike, but only if both sides agree to accept the arbitrator's recommendations as binding." I am thinking if this sentence could be viewed as 1. and/or 2. below: 1. (A ---> B) ---> C 2. (A ---...

Re: June 2007, section 2, question 19

Hi Patrick, I was looking at your post to explain why (A) is incorrect. You stated: "So we don't really know or care whether the Land Party ever reached out to urban groups, either this election or in preceding ones." If you looked the last post of the topic by jamesquinnw, he pointed out ...

Strengthen/Weaken Q - using the negation test

I found using the negation test is very useful for Strengthen/Weaken questions. For example, for harder strengthen questions, it is not easy to tell if one answer choice strengthens the argument, but after negating the answer choice, it is much easier to tell if the negated choice weakens the argume...

Re: Q22 - Linguist: One group of art

(C) This might seem good on a first pass. We know the critics all accept this claim. "Cited by the argument as evidence of its truth" sounds like what we mean by "premise". (C) actually says that "there are paintings that are not works of art" is the conclusion. On a c...

Q19 - Editorial: Painting involves

I am not exactly sure why (B) is a wrong answer choice. My guess is (B) uses the word "likely", but only conditional statements given in the question. (E) is correct, because it uses conditional language too.

Re: Negation test revisited

I think the "even" is unnecessary. To me it adds some subtle emphasis that I don't think we need. It's definitely not the easiest sentence to negate, but remember, you can ALWAYS negate something by simply prefacing it with "it is not true that ____" So: It is NOT true that Peop...

Q4 - Psychiatrist: Take any visceral emotion you care to

Hello, I want to ask why answer B is not the reverse of what we want. In the charper 3, the term shift, it states A -> B is not the same as B -> A. Here, isn't we want "visceral emotions" means "anger", but not the other way around?

Q5 - Editorialist: Many professional musicians claim

I came down to (A) and (B). (A): I thought A is wrong because the premise doesn't state ""another party is blameworthy." (B): I thought B is wrong because of "attemp to promote" was not in the premise. I thought both (A) and (B) are not perfect, but I chose (B) which is not ...

Re: Flaws and Assumptions

Thanks! You help me understand the question better. I was wondering why you prefer to use the word "weaken" here (flaw question), when you really mean "destroy"? Before this, I thought "weaken" only means you could weaken the argument a little bit, a lot, or destroy the...

Re: Necessary Assumption question involving cause

Hello, I want to confirm my understanding of necessary accumptions for causation. Thanks! Conclusion: A cause B Necessary assumptions: B does not cause A (that the reverse is not true). C (third element) does not cause A and B (that some third element doesn't cause both). A and B have some impact on...

Re: Flaws and Assumptions

Could you explain why you stated "In both cases the remainder of the answer choice would need to state that something the argument assumed to be true, was in fact not true."? Answer choices (B) and (E) on PT39, S4, Q20 both begin with similar language: Overlooks the possibility that... Doe...

I have a problem to tell causation claim in the questions. For example, page 152 LR guide, Implicit: "Ted didn't sleep well the night before the exam and performed poorly. He would have performed better if he could have gotten more sleep." I can only tell there is a correlation between sle...

Conditional logic - "only"

I am having a hard time to translate the following statements (1. and 2.) with a word "only" into "A guarantee B" (A --> B). I found myself taking too long to decipher 1. and 2. I could decipher 3. quickly because I do it mechanically (as long as I see "only if" then...

the term shift in sufficient assumption Q

Hello, I have a question for the term shift type insufficient assumption Q. PT35, S4, Q14, PT 32, S4, Q4, and PT38, S4, Q16 are the questions I believe are examples for this type of questions. I want to say first what I see from the explanations in the LR guide for PT35, S4, Q14, PT 32, S4, Q4, and ...
