Retake or not

by squinn621 Wed Nov 13, 2013 7:32 pm

So I took the october test and scored a 168 which I am very happy with. My average test score was around a 164-165, but the week before the test I hit a 174 and 170 but also scored a 162. I am interested in going to a top 14 school, hopefully Columbia. I have a very strong GPA from a good university in a somewhat difficult major. I am struggling to decide if I should risk taking the test again with the hope I get lucky and break into 170's or if I should just apply now and be happy. I retook two tests and got a 168 and 164. My fear is doing worse than 168 and having to wait longer to apply. Any advice?

Hey Squinn,

There isn't much disadvantage to retaking. Schools don't average your scores very often anymore, though they will see that data no matter what. Either way, it shouldn't push your timing back. Most schools will just look at your best score.
