Question Stem Clarification

by JessicaB Mon Jan 20, 2020 1:55 pm

If the question stem states "Each of the following could be true EXCEPT".
Does this mean we are looking for a "must be true" or "must be false" answer?

Great question. This often trips people up. On the LSAT, the phrase "could be," refers to what is possible. We can reword the question stem this way:

"It is possible for each of the following to be true EXCEPT."

So the correct answer, the exception, will be the answer that is not possible. It's the one that must be false.

Hope that helps.
