Question about bubbling and hand scoring

by panman36 Mon Jul 11, 2011 6:11 am

I'd like to know how well a bubble needs to be filled in to be picked up by the machine? Is there any risk a partially-filled bubble won't get detected?

Because I didn't know the answer to this, I think I erred on the side of caution on my exam. I was pretty anal about bubbling fully and neatly. Now I wonder if worrying about this costed me time?

My next question is about hand scoring. What is the criteria for a mark to be considered valid this way? Does it just have to be visible to the examiner? If that's the case my idea would be to just plan on requesting this service and then have freedom to leave any old line or scratch in the bubble. Good idea? When you think about the time this could add up to over the course of the test, I think it's clearly worth it. I'd just wanna be completely sure the mark would be counted :)

I didn't find any published material on the criteria for determining whether a mark has been correctly placed, but the idea you have doesn't sound like a good one. Spend the extra 3/4 of a second and get the answer in correctly. It'll give you a better peace of mind, which will help you stay more relaxed, and think more clearly.

I've attached a pic, to give you a sense for marking that I think would probably and probably not be acceptable.
