9. (B) Question Type: Conditional.

This question asks for a list of all possible items that Jana could receive given a new condition: that she receive only one piece of mail. Note that this is not asking for a possible list (which would be a bit nonsensical since Jana can only receive one item, and nobody refers to a singular item as a "list"). Considering that L and M can only be assigned to either Jana or Rini, and since L has an additional constraint directly affecting it, let’s start with L. If Jana receives L alone, Rini must receive M. Since Rini did not receive L, the second constraint is not triggered, and we’re free to assign F and S to Georgette and P to Rini. Since L is a possible singular item for Jana to receive, we can eliminate (A) and (D).

If Jana were to receive only M, Rini would receive L, triggering the second constraint. This would require that Jana receive P along with M; thus Jana cannot receive only M. We can eliminate (E).

To choose between (B) and (C), we need only evaluate either P or S. With our experience from evaluating M, we should look for an item that will again trigger the second constraint (in order to eliminate that answer choice). S fits the bill! Just as above, if Jana were to receive L, then she would have to receive P. We can eliminate (C), leaving us with (B).
