I got the right answer on 9 but I had to go through all of the answer choices. Is there an inference I missed that could have allowed me to speed up?

Unfortunately, I don't think so.

If M is 2nd, nothing falls into place from that. You might try and fit the H before GK chunk, but you'll likely find that focussing only on H, G, and K, you find that H is limited to 3rd, 4th, or 5th. As you run through the answers you're likely to recognize as you work through (B) that H cannot go fourth, since you would have no remaining space for the IL chunk.
