Re: Q9 - Laird: Pure research provides

We have a disagreement question stem.

Laird believes that pure research is more worthwhile for its ability to provide new ideas and expand knowledge than for its ability to save lives.

Kim believes that saving lives is what is most important. She also says that pure research is necessary for the way medicine is today.

Answer choices:

A) In part? Laird does not have to disagree with this. As long as the providing new ideas part is more important than the technologies part.

B) Laird is allowed to believe that pure research does expand the boundaries for medicine. Laird was discussing meaning.

C) Important goal? Laird can still believe it can be an important goal. We have support that Laird believes it to be the case that it is not true that this should be the MOST important. But just important? Not enough here to say that this is a disagreeing point.

D) Laird would disagree with this. Laird would say that its most valuable achievement would have to do with something in providing new ideas, not in providing medical applications. Kim would agree with this as she believes that saving lives is what counts most of all.

This is an answer choice that we anticipated. Laird had New Ideas > Medical...and Kim had Medical > New Ideas.

E) Has any value? Laird can still believe it has some value, just not that lion's share (majority).
