Q8

by ShariS937 Sat Oct 24, 2020 3:47 am

This question just took me forever. I think I keep working the problems way past where the test is asking me to.

Is there any simpler way to approach this problem?

If U is in 3, which CBT:

1 2 U 4 5 6 7
? X U T ? ? W (frame 1)
? T U X W (frame 2, violates rule 4, only use for eliminations)

A. R in 1 - forces S/Z into 6/7, eliminate
B. R in 5 - ok
C. S in 7 - no, W is in 7, rule 2, eliminate
D. W in 6 - no, violates rule 2, eliminate
E. X in 4 - no, frame 2, eliminate

Hi! I initially framed around the T__ __ W rule, which made the question a lot easier and faster. Here are my two frames:

U/X U/X T __ __ W S/Z
__ __ __ T __ __ W

(You could fill in some of the other possibilities in clouds as well, but that's hard to do in this format!)

Basically, either T is in 3 or T is in 4. So, if U is in 3, then T must be in 4, so the diagram for Q8 has to be:

S/Z X U T __ __ W

This just leaves R and S/Z for spots 5 and 6. (B) has R in spot 5, which works, so that's it.

(S or Z have to be in the first spot, because otherwise they would be next to each other in spots 5 and 6, which would violate the third rule).
