Q7

by PinsyuanW243 Sat Aug 31, 2019 10:27 pm

According to the question stem, I found out the following combination
1 2 3 4 5 6
F H/J J/H G Q R
F J G Q R H
J/H H/J G Q R F
J G Q R H F

It turns out both (C) and (D) Could Be True
Please kindly explain why (D) is wrong.

I would write GQ on my page and look to see if other rules connect:

Q is immediately before R, so GQR
and J is earlier than Q, so
J - GQR.

Also, we see that G cannot be 3, since this wouldn't allow for Q to be 5.
(It looks like two of the scenarios you came up with broke this rule)

Since there are only six spots, G would have to go 2nd or 4th.

__ G Q R __ __
or
__ __ __ G Q R

Since J - GQR, we know that the first one is really
J G Q R _ _

Since F is 1 or 6, we can place F in both scenarios:
J G Q R _ F
or
F _ _ G Q R

Who's left? The floater H.
J G Q R H F
or
F (H, J) G Q R

(A) No, G is 2nd or 4th
(B) No, 6th is F or R.
(C) Yes, F J H G Q R is possible
(D) No, Q is either 3 or 5.
(E) No, R is either 4 or 6.
