Q7 - Critic: Emily Dickinson's poetry

by kbishop Fri Sep 30, 2011 12:18 pm

Please explain how the credited response is (B).

According to the stimulus, no one from different eras can have the same system of beliefs, hence that their interpretations being the same would be very unlikely.

I chose (A) because nowhere does the stimulus does it say that interprtation is affected by other people. Believing that someone's interpretation being affected by someone else's interpretation is a stretch. Is that assumed to be through their system of beliefs?

Like you said, because this is mentioned nowhere in the stimulus, we can't conclude that it CANNOT possibly be true, which is what we're looking for. We know that someone's beliefs are determining their interpretation, but why can't someone else's interpretation also be a factor? We don't know.

(B) however can't be true. We know anyone from different cultures have "radically different" beliefs; we know beliefs determine "UNIQUE" interpretation; two people from different cultures then can't have the same interpretation. They may be very similar! But they will not be identical.

(C) is irrelevant; it could be true.

(D) definitely true. They have very different belief systems.

(E) Sure, why not?
