I don't understand why D couldn't work. In my attempt to disprove D, I made two frames: one with T in slot 1 and the second with the TG block and S occupying slots 4,5, and 6. Between the two frames, T could be in either slots 1, 4, and 5. L, G, and S have mobility between slots 4, 5, and 6 (according the first frame). These are same restrictions posed by the initial setup. What exactly is the problem? Does the reasoning have something to do with the fact that D sets up a conditional and A does not? Thanks in advance!

Hi Jenna,

I'll go ahead and walk through each of the answer choices.

(A) Correct - neither adds additional constraints nor fails to include any constraints set by the original rule.

(B) adds an additional constraint. This precludes the hypothetical T, W, L, P, S, G, which would be possible under the original constraints.

(C), (D) add an additional constraint. These precludes the hypothetical P, W, L, T, S, G, which would be possible under the original constraints.

(E) adds an additional constraint. This precludes the hypothetical T, W, P, G, S, L, which would be possible under the original constraints.

There are two ways we need to check the answers on Equivalent Rule questions:
1. Do they violate previous work? (or do they introduce a restriction we didn't have before?)

2. Do they replicate the effect of the original rule? (or could we obey this new rule while breaking the old rule?)

There is no "setup" for the question. As you evaluate answers, you'll be doing a combination of checking previous work for counterexamples (#1) or trying out some new scenarios to see if you can follow the new rule while breaking the old one (#2).

(A) This definitely keeps T from being 6th (#2), but was it always the case that T was before G or S or both?
It was! This should be our answer.

(B) T P W L S G was legal before, so this limitation isn't like our original game. We didn't HAVE to have T immediately connected to G or S. Eliminate.

(C) P W L G T S was legal before, so this isn't like our original game. Eliminate.

(D) P W L G T S would disprove this answer choice as well. Eliminate.

(E) T P W G S L was legal before, so this isn't like our original game. Eliminate.
