Q5

Hi, I thought this answer was tricky and noticed that there was no discussion.
Support for the correct answer, which is C can be found from lines 7-11.
I was tempted by answer choice D but it explicitly says that the theoretical foundation of the movement was formulated by the artists themselves.

Thanks for creating the thread.

I would start by trying to find a part in the passage that has keywords like "Mexican govt in 1920 / approach to art / after Mexican Revolution".

The easiest thing to scan for is 1920, and it looks like it only appears in the first paragraph.

What do we hear about the govt's approach to art?
- promoted ambitious cultural program
- called on artists to display Mexico's richness and possibility

I'd expect the answer to reinforce that second bullet point, since the first one is too vague for good synonym matching.

Okay, (prephrase mantra stage), I'm looking for something that sounds like called on artists to display Mexico's richness and possibility ...

(A) innovations from abroad? That's the opposite of what we're looking for. Eliminate.

(B) maybe? is "realist tradition" the same as "Mexico's richness and possibility"? Keep it.

(C) Oooh, this is way better. "Mexico's richness (heritage) and possibility (future promise)." Ding-ding-ding-ding-ding. We have a good enough synonym-lock that I'd be pretty confident picking this answer without even looking at the other two.

(D) theoretical base?

(E) played faves to one type of artist over another type?

Make sure you're taking the step of looking at the keywords in the question stem, and finding and re-reading that part of the passage before you look at answer choices. Hope this helps.
