Way too strong. The parent was talking about primary school children and their needs. This answer choice states all, which would include secondary and whatever other school has a student!

We cannot infer that much. The parent is really focusing on the children.

Rigorous study could be doing more bad than good for young children. Curricula for the young kids needs to address their development needs. Doing this kind of work may work in secondary schools, but in primary schools it can lead to two bad things.

We can infer that this parent believes rigorous work does not sufficiently address the development needs of the primary students.

Correct answer: D

Analysis of answers:

A: The parent says nothing about doing anything to make our nation more or less competitive. He/she just says that using students as instruments to make the nation economically competitive is unfair and may backfire.

B: Tricky...I did not eliminate this in the first read-through of the answer choices. This is ultimately incorrect because the parent doesn't give any indication that secondary school students have developmental needs that need to be addressed. In fact, the parent says that rigorous schoolwork in secondary school makes sense!

C: Same reason as A. Nothing about making our country more or less competitive.

D: The parent says rigorous schoolwork in primary school will lead to short-term gains and burnout--so we can infer that students in primary school have developmental needs.

E: Same reason as A and C.
