Hello,

I did not choose C because the word "solely" was too strong or extreme.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Strong or extreme is what we want in this case. We want a reason to help the argument that the claim being made is premature. Saying higher primates cannot be identified solely by their lower jawbones helps this claim. We're told in the stimulus that they found a 40 million year old fossilized fragment of a lower jawbone and they use this finding to add credence to the theory that higher primates developed in Burma instead of Egypt. So, basically, "found fossil of lower jawbone in Burma ---> higher primates originated in Burma." Our task is to find an answer choice that would weaken the relationship (make the conclusion "premature") between the finding and the theory; C does this as it says we cannot use the lower jawbone alone to make the determination that higher primates originated in Burma instead of Egypt. If we can't use the jaw bone, then the theory is definitely premature.
