Q4

Ok, I'll give this one a shot.

If the Polyester dress is on hanger 2, then which one of the following must be true?
(A) The silk is on hanger 1
(B) The wool dress is on hanger 3
(C) The linen dress is on hanger 4
(D) The linen dress is on hanger 5
(E) The rayon dress is on hanger 6

For this we sketch a new number line

R/ P W/S __ __ __

from our rules, we know (G--P) therefore, the first element must be G. And per "Rayon is 1st or 6th rule", Rayon must be the sixth hanger.

G P W/S __ __ R

(E) must be true. Stop here during LSAT exam.

However,

(A) Silk cannot be on hanger 1 because G must precede P which is on hanger 2. Eliminate this guy.

(B) Wool can be 3rd or 5th, i.e., GPWSLR or GPSLWR, therefore W on 3 must not be true. Eliminate.

(C) Linen dress can be 4th or 5th (see B), therefore L on 4 must not be true. Eliminate.

(D) Same as C, Linen dress can be on 4th or 5th. Eliminate.

(E) Aha! Just as we thought, Rayon must be 6th because 1st place must be occupied by G. Choose this one.

Thanks so much for the great explanation! Great work. I'd add that on your number line

You might add the slash R.

R/ P W/S __ __ /R

Other than that you used the right frame, made the right inferences, and found the correct answer. And yes, under testing conditions, you'd hopefully scan the answers for an inference, find answer choice (E), mark it and move on!
