We are asked to identify the role in the argument. Our conclusion is that the predatory dinosaur was chasing the grazing one. Our premises are that:
1. the tracks indicated they were matching strides (the text we're asked about)
2. lions and other modern animals match strides before they strike
(C) works because 1. is a basis for 2., which is the analogy on which the conclusion is best.
(A) introduces scientific importance, which is not relevant to the question. We don't know what "scientific importance" is. (You're right--it seems to come out of nowhere. It's out of scope. There isn't some secret definition here that you're missing; it's just off base!)
(B) is incorrect. It's not a hypothesis nor rejected.
(D) is like (B)--not true.
(E) It's not the conclusion!
