Q3

by YLAGUNAS Sun May 20, 2012 2:36 pm

Is answer choice B wrong because it can be L or P that must be in and since we have already satisfied the requirement for two experienced astronauts, there is still room for P who is an inexperienced astronaut (geologist) to be in, therefore L (choice B) does not have to be true? Or is it because out of the following choices given in this question there two inexperienced geologists (C) and (e) therefore (d) which is N (inexperienced radiologist) must be true?
Sorry if my train of thought is all over the place but I want to know why answer choice B is incorrect.

Thank you!

The rules state that exactly 2 geologists and 2 radiobiologists are selected. It also states that exactly 2 experienced and two inexperienced astronauts are selected.

Since F and J are both selected, only an inexperienced geologist and an inexperienced Radiobiologist can be selected. P or L or both must be selected, but L cannot be selected because L is experienced. If L was selected, then you would have 3 experienced astronauts, which is against the rules. Therefore, P must be selected along with F and J.

The remaining spot must be filled by an inexperienced radiobiologist, which in this case can only be choice (c) or N.
