Q3

by nazu.s.shaikh Wed Aug 04, 2010 10:59 pm

Correct me if I am wrong please but for Q3 we cant use exclusions to force out incorrect answers because only two variables are given and the other 4 a mystery.

How to approach this question then... I am unsure of my method and reasoning for this question.

I canceled out A on the basis that G cannot be on Wed. [That's 1 gone]

I canceled out B because of the last constraint where I assumed that H and N had to be separate days [ 2 gone ]

I'm down to C D E but more heavily leaning towards answer D on the basis of if K and N were on Wed, this would mean that H and I are excluded and allow for O and R to come into play and G ..which would fill in spots.. but what stops me is whether it " must be true" just because it works, does it mean that " it must be true "

#3 is unconditional, so we're left to rely on our diagram and understanding of the game.Exclusion could work but it'd be time-consuming as you'd end up proving 4 answers correct. Since this game is early in the test, it's probably not too hard, and we're only at question 3, so we can expect that answer to be relatively obvious.

Here's where you tripped up. The last rule doesn't say that exactly. Read it again. It's true that H and N have to be on different days if N is on Monday or Tuesday, but anything is possible on Wednesday. For H and N to be together, it would have to be on Wednesday, otherwise H (and I) would have to be the day after N. Make sense?

I ended up with the correct answer but had trouble proving why (D) was wrong for the longest time!

"Tuesday is the only day on which G can give a report"

Sneaky... :geek:

G doesn't HAVE to be on the list
