Q3 - Harry: Airlines have made it

by nushy786 Sat Jun 02, 2012 10:27 pm

Harry states that airlines have made it possible for anyone to travel the world in less time.
Judith claims that Harry's statement is false since many flights are too expensive for all but the rich.

I don't understand why (B) is incorrect.

B is incorrect because it shifts the terms. Judith is talking about flights being too expensive in terms of money. Answer choice B deals with people's "rights" which are irrelevant to Judith's rebuttal.

Answer choice E is correct because it relates Judith's response regarding money to Harry's initial argument. If choice E were how she took Harry's statement, her response would make sense.

3) Harry says that airlines make it possible for everyone to travel, and Judith responds that it’s not true because flying can be too expensive. Is that what Harry meant by "airlines make it possible"?

(A) Unsupported
(B) Right to experience? That’s true, Judith isn’t misinterpreting the right.
(C) Unsupported
(D) Most, most.
(E) Perfect. Judith interprets Harry to be saying that airlines have made it possible for everyone to travel meaning that everyone can afford it, and she rejects that assumption by pointing out that often only the rich can afford it.

Good analysis. I agree. So Henry's point is about how airlines have made it possible for people to go faster than before...and she clearly thinks he means every single person can fly, because she takes "anyone" literally in his statement. (E) gets at this.
