Re: Q25 - The law of the city

by mswang7 Tue Mar 17, 2020 4:06 pm

if contribution is >$100 & ( from nonresident nonformer resident) <-> must be registered (It took be forever & reading all the prior posts to understand this bi-conditional which I am still iffy about
only accepted contributions from residents & former residents -> complied

A. We don't know the amounts that possible nonresidents (would have to be former residents) contributed to the campaign
B. Once again, we don't know the amounts of any contributions nor whether they were registered
C. no nonresident non former resident contributions -> no need to be registered
D. We don't know if any contros were registered/ what the amt was
E. Unknown

It took some time to wrap my mind around this, even after digesting the bi-conditional

Yeah, this biconditional is really subtle. It comes from the fact that this is "THE law" of the city regarding contributions to mayoral campaigns. That means there's one law and one law only:

Over $100 + non res/former res --> Must register with CC

Since it's the only law, it also implies that ALL contributions that must be registered with the city council are those over $100 made by non res/former res.

And since Brimley didn't accept any contributions by non res/former res, the campaign didn't accept any contributions that need to be registered.

Nice work!
