Q25

by wbbrumfield Fri Sep 21, 2012 12:05 am

I don't see how the author would describe it as generally accepted. I picked A; I knew it wasn't perfect, but it was all I had left after elimination.

How is B better than A? Where is it shown or implied that Lowe's method was generally accepted?

Ah! I think the problem is in the question stem. The question is asking about the method Lowe uses, not his actual theory. We know the method is generally accepted from the 1st paragraph which states that Lowe uses dated monuments to construct a step-by-step account. This method is apparently used by other investigators (line 5) and so we can say the method is generally accepted.

The author thinks the method is questionable though because we cannot be certain that the archeological record reflects historical activity (lines 48-49). Thus answer choice (B) can be inferred from the passage.

Incorrect Answers
(A) contradicts the passage since the method is one that many previous investigators have used.
(C) contradicts the passage since the author questions the methods reliability.
(D) contradicts the passage since the author questions the results reached by Lowe.
(E) contradicts the passage since the method is conventional.
