Q2380 Menace

by yoohoo081 Fri Sep 30, 2011 2:33 pm

Predators are a menace to all humans, and some humans are a menace to society.

A) Some menaces to society are menaced by predators.

B) Some predators are a menace to society.

So I got this wrong & I think it was because of wording.
Is the thought process correct? Please let me know if it's incorrect!!

P-> ALL H
SOME H-> S

*ALL-> SOME= SOME

CONCLUSION: (A) P-> SOME S

That's a tricky one!

I'm not exactly sure what your thinking is on that - your nomenclature is a bit specific. But, I'd be careful because your final line, "CONCLUSION: (A) P-> SOME S" might seem like "Some predators are menacing society" and we can't infer that. We can infer that predators are menacing humans, some of whom are menacing society.

By the way, you don't know if all the things that predators menace are menaces to society, since those predators might menace gerbils or some other innocuous creature (sorry, gerbils if that offends you).

But, since you know that being menaced by predators is common to ALL humans, you know that anything that some humans do is being done by humans that are menaced by predators (since all humans are menaced by predators).

Sort of a scary topic - who are these predators?
