Q23

by mcrittell Sun May 29, 2011 4:16 pm

I actually diagrammed this game correctly, and got the previous questions before this one correct. I'm unsure of how to go about this question.

I think there are a few ways to diagram this, but I would have diagrammed it as an open assignment game, with the three bills each having three slots and then narrowing it down from there. Then I would put a town council member in a slot when that member voted for the bill, and would not put the member into a slot if the member voted against that specific bill.

By doing it this way, we can easily add the new constraint that Q23 imposes, which is specifically that two out of three of the members are missing from exactly the same bill or bills. Notice that if they are missing from the same bills they also have to be present at the same bills. So this is another way of saying two of the members have to be identical.

Does that help? If you tell me how you chose to diagram it, we can also think about how to work through it with whatever diagramming system you used.

Oh sorry. I diagrammed it like they did in the other post for this game ("diagramming").

I see this as a closed assignment game, but only because the constraints limit us down to one numerical assignment 2 - 1 - 1. And then I'd frame the game - see attached. The question stem can only occur in one of the frames and you can simply read the correct answer from the frame that would be triggered by the conditional question.

Let me know if you have any questions on how I came up with the inferences for my frames. Along with the attached frames is a walk through for this question as well.

Hope that helps!
