Q22

by Fazzvm56 Sun May 01, 2016 12:47 pm

I found this game relatively easy but ran out of time on the last two questions so I didn't get to them, but as I'm reviewing this question I'm having a hard time seeing how (C) and (E) are possible?

The rules state that:
1. Either Frank is assigned to Raimes and Kevin is assigned to Thompson, or Frank is not assigned to Raimes and Kevin is not assigned to Thompson.
and then follows with
2. Kevin is not assigned to Thompson.

which would mean that Frank is not assigned to Raimes. But even with rule #2 alone, saying that Kevin is not assigned to Thompson, how can question #22 which is asking which CANNOT be a complete assignment to the Thompson case include two answers where Kevin is assigned to the Thompson case?

If the second rule is saying that Kevin can't be on T, then how does #22 have two answers that say it can?

I think you might have the rules wrong, sorry.

1. Either F is assigned to R and K is assigned to T, or F is not assigned to R and K is not assigned to T.
2. Either F is the sole paralegal assigned to his case or G is the sole paralegal assigned to her case, but not both.
3. H is assigned to S.

There is no rule that says that K is not assigned to T.

Hope that helps. And here are some frames you might use based on the 2nd rule.

Image

(A) could be true in frame 4.
(B) could be true in frame 2.
(C) could be true in frame 1.
(E) could be true in frame 1.

The rules were formatted in a way that the last part of the first rule was on its own line and I took it as a separate rule - moving too fast, whoops!

Such a common issue! If there's a takeaway from that, it's to slow down during the setup of your game. You should be pushing your tempo of course, but probably not while you're setting up a game. Wait till you hit the questions to hit the accelerator. Not only will those sloppy errors go away, but you'll see more connections/limitations/inferences during the setup phase.
