Number 21, where in the passage does it say that intertribalism helps "strengthen" native american identity?

Why, the last line: "intertribal activities, on the other hand, reinforce native American identity." Reinforce is a great match for strengthen.

So (C) is correct because the author's main point, which we don't fully get until the final paragraph, is to debunk the idea that intertribalism marks the decline of tribal culture and the eventual assimilation of Native Americans into mainstream Euroamerican society. Rather, he says, intertribalism helps strengthen Native American society as a whole against outside pressures.

(A) is tempting, because the author does criticize an assumption, but that's not the main point; this is too narrow in scope.

(B) is directly contradicted by the passage; it is a potent force.

(D) is completely unsupported.

(E) is the exact opposite of what the author is trying to do!

Does that clear this one up for you?
