Q2

by jamesquinnw Sun Jun 10, 2012 6:57 pm

I got tripped up on question 2 because it seemed like (a) and (b) could both be correct.

P: FHLM
T: GHJ

The questions asks which committee member could be replaced by K without violating a rule. It seems like it's necessary to make an unwarranted assumption to rule out (a), i.e. it's not permissible to add a member other than K to either committee.

Reading the question stem, it didn't seem like anything prohibited me from replacing F with K and bringing J along with K to avoid violating the K->J rule, like this:

P: KHLMJ
T: GHJ

Any thoughts?

I see what you mean. The question stem does ask us to replace a variable in those committees with K.

We have this knowledge from this question stem:

P: F H L M

T: G H J

I would consider only replacing the variable with K and no other action on my part.

This leaves me with only considering G or H, as putting J in committee will require J to follow. J is not on the P committee, so I am only looking at the T committee.

It is either G or H. If I replace H with K, I now have a situation of F and K being together. I would have to eliminate F and add in a J into the P team for this answer choice to work.

In (B), with G, I can simply replace the G with a K and not do a single thing afterwards and it works.
