Q2 - Checkerpot Butterfly

by nandy_millette Mon Apr 07, 2014 11:55 am

It got this question wrong and decided to write a review after I figured out the correct answer:

Conclusion: Changing climate is responsible for the checkerpot butterfly northward movement

Premise: The northward shift of the butterfly is perfectly correlated with the northward shift of the warm climate

Strengthen Except--> Which means 4 ACs would strengthen and 1 AC would not strengthen the argument or would be total irrelevant or have no effect.

A- Lab results say c.butterfly affected by small climate changes-if so then yes they will definitely have to go some where else if the climate is changing

B- Climate indirectly affects the c.butterfly because their food needs to grow in warm temperatures- Again this would support the argument

C- Experiment says that they can adapt easily to temperature change- so, if they can do this then there is no reason for them to leave if the temperature changes- This goes against our argument and is therefore the correct answer

D-Past data shows low temperature correlated with low c.butterfly population- weak support but support nonetheless

E-Closely related other butterfly species can only thrive in warm temperatures. Again- weak support but support nonetheless

Initially, I chose E and in retrospect I do not even know why  (its embarrassing to get these easy questions wrong)
