Q19

by Carlystern Wed Mar 20, 2013 11:37 pm

I am struggling with this one. Can someone please explain it to me?

I think the wording is throwing me off. If two letters are immediately next to G, then they surround G on either side? Also, if OI are clockwise, then I has to always be next to O and to the right, correct?

Yeah, this is the worst game ever, fyi.

You're correct that "next to" in this game will mean surrounding.

Since we can't draw circles in this typing environment, let's attempt to represent this game horizontally.

__ __ __ __ __ __ __ __

Note, the first and last spot wrap around and are connected to each other.

Let's plug in F and G arbitrarily into seats 1 and 5 (the numbers mean nothing, but it let's us know which spots we're talking about)

F _ _ _ G _ _ _

We'll say clockwise is from left to right, so we have an OI chunk to fit in somewhere.

Q19 says that H and O are next to G, so that either looks like
HGO or OGH.

But since we also know there's an OI chunk, we know that OGH is impossible.

We'll have to do HGOI.

So here's what we have
F _ _ H G O I _

Who's left?
K, M, P

We know H can't be next to F or K, s K can't go in spot 3.

We'll have
F _ M/P H G O I _

We still have K and P/M left to place.

As we read these answers, again we need to think of "next to Peter" as "P is in between these two letters".

(A) Can P be in between F and K? Nope.
(B) Can P be in between F and O? Nope.
(C) Can P be in between H and I? Nope.
(D) Can P be in between H and K? Sure.
F K P H G O I M

Hope this helps.
