Answer choice (C) can be inferred from the 1st paragraph, which states that the birth of the United Farm Workers' efforts began around 1960, while the Teatro Campesino was not created until 1965. So we can establish that the Teatro Campesino did not play a role in the earliest efforts of the United Farm Workers Union.

Incorrect Answers

(A) is out of scope as farm owners were not discussed in the passage.
(B) is unsupported, as we are not told of others besides Valdez, who was a former member of the San Francisco Mime Troupe, that joined the Teatro Campesino.
(D) is out of scope. The passage does not mention the language the plays were performed in.
(E) is unsupported. We are not told from which countries those who praised the Teatro Campesino came from.

It doesn't say they began in 1960 it says they began in the 1960s. This doesn't imply it started earlier. It does, however, say that by 1965 they had gained international recognition by boycotting which indicates it was successful before Teatro Campesino or Chicano theater.

So true. That the unionizing efforts began in the 1960's and that the international recognition had been achieved by 1965 merely suggests that the efforts of the United Farm Workers Union began sometime in the 1960's before 1965.

Nice correction scott.callin66!

The sentence "By 1965, Chavez's United Farm Workers Union gained international recognition..." implies that the unionizing efforts had begun sometime before 1965 and achieved some significant progress in 1965.
