Doesn't the last paragraph of the passage disprove answer E?

The issue here is that the passage does not represent just Rohwer's position. In fact Rohwer is pretty much limited to only the 2nd and 3rd paragraphs. So we wouldn't want to consult the final paragraph on this question.

Instead on (lines 17-19) we see that Rohwer advocated the SSH and on (lines 25-26) we see that his data did not support his assertions - so answer choice (E) seems to be a good fit.

Let's look at the incorrect answers though...

(A) is unsupported. We cannot say that his data seemed to be more relevant to other issues.
(B) is contradicted. Rohwer does not revise SSH.
(C) is unsupported. Rohwer assented to SSH, but did not set out to contradict it.
(D) is unsupported. Again, he did not alter or revise SSH.
