lolitatrekkie Wrote:Why is E correct and not D?
I thought it was D because it mentions in the 3rd paragraph that when women allied with radical Jacobin men they adopted violently extremist viewpoints and vocabulary that it brought more damage to their political interests. I thought that just because it did damage doesn't necessarily mean that there's total collapse in the women's movement.
Some clarification would be helpful!
Thanks!
I actually picked D as well but then after reviewing the passage, I realized that E was the more suitable answer choice. In lines 61-64, the passage states that "in the case of Landes and Badinter, the reader is left with sobering awareness of the cost to the women of the Revolution of speaking in borrowed voices"
The question we need to ask is what happened when the women of the Revolution spoke in "borrowed voices"?
We know that "borrowed voices" refer to the "adopted vocabulary and violent extremist viewpoint" (51-52) of the radical Jacobin men when the women forged an alliance with them. We are also told that the "borrowed voices" led to the collapse of the women's movement (look at the beginning of the 3rd paragraph). Thus, the "cost" for the women of the Revolution speaking in "borrowed voices" was that it led to the downfall to their movement. E matches this nicely.
