Q18

Would lines 40-42 be the support for C? Please let me know of any other line references if there are any where we get evidence of C.

Those are the most precise lines, yes. But even the lines before that (the third paragraph generally) provide additional support for (C)--see lines 30-35.

I chose E...
but this is this wrong because E is something that the author would say not Kingston?

Because in the first paragraph... critics said something about Kingston's story and then the author rebuts and say they have overlooked the talk-story and only examined the written texts.

I don't think E is something even the author would say. I think the critics talked about in the beginning of the passage may say something like this, but even that is a tough reach because they don't think her writings are linked to talk-story at all and thus they would not be talking about their ability to capture a feature of oral story telling. The for getting rid of E is that it says their significance and beauty cannot be captured at all. While it is suggested that the author or Kingston may believe the writing cannot capture all of the features of oral story telling, she certainly does not believe that it can't capture some if not most of it.

Hi, I was just wondering why D could not be the answer. Is it b/c of the word "best" in the answer choice which possibly could be too extreme? I chose D, but was b/w C, however eliminated C thinking was too narrow, out of scope. Thank you

Good discussion!

Yes, (D) is too extreme. "Best" would certainly need to be supported in order to be accurate. Beware of extreme language in answer choices, always!

As a previous poster noted, lines 41-42 provide clear support for choice (C), so no, it's not out of scope.

Also agree with previous poster who noted that (E) is too extreme.

(A) and (B) are not supported by what you're told in the passage.
