here is my take on this question.
the part from passage that relates to the question:
"the television in the community can serve as an analogous function to that of oral poetry"

(A), (B), (C) are wrong because these talk about preference... but the paragraph never talks about preference of one to the other.....
(D) is wrong for a similar reason as well- it talks about being limited to two choices and that the group chose one because the other wasn't available, an inference we cannot make.
(E) however, is correct because the quoted part can be used to infer this choice- analogous function implies similar function which can be the same reasons...
this too shall pass
