can someone please explain this question, i choose E. I have no idea why A is correct.

This one is a tricky one! But the correct answer (A) is supported by lines 45-49: the inquisitorial system operates...on the premise that in a criminal action the crucial factor is the body of facts, not the legal rule (in contrast to the adversarial system)".

This tells us that in the adversarial system, the crucial factor IS the legal rule. Note that the actual term "crucial factor," as used in the passage, also appears in the stem of the question.

The other four answer choices are just not quite right. There isn't the same kind of direct support for any of them in the passage, even if you could make an argument for them; the support is not going to be as direct.
