Q16

by priyanka.krishnamurthy Sun Mar 19, 2017 5:38 pm

Hello --
Was wondering why Ultrasaur must be mauve here?

I am getting the following (at least one example disproving that):
Display criteria:
Green: I
Mauve:
Mauve:
Red: S
?: ?

Can't have V in as U is in. Other three can be P, L,T.
L can be M, T can be M, and U can be whatever color. What I am missing here to say that U must be mauve?

Thanks

Ultrasaur DOESN'T have to be mauve.

The answer is (A). T has to be mauve.

As you said, U kicks V out, so we have

S - r
I - g
U -
? -
? - (m, m)
-------
V
?

The remaining pieces are
P - y
L -
T -

I would try P in and P out, since it's more limiting
S(r), I(g), P(y), U(m), ?(m) [] V, ?

T and L are left. The two mauves can never be L and U, so T would be the other one.
S(r), I(g), P(y), U(m), T(m) [] V, L

What about when P is out?
S(r), I(g), U, ?, ?, [] V, P

T and L are left and thus must be in
S(r), I(g), U, L, T, [] V, P

Who could be the two mauves?
TU
TL

So no matter how you slice it, T is mauve.

Thanks....my mistake for thinking a wrong answer was the right one :(
