I am having problems seeing why B is correct and D is incorrect. They are so close and I am missing what the difference is between these two. Can you please explain? Thank you.

Those two are quite similar. However, (D) ends with "...discusses two ways in which the new approach will benefit the proponents."

And that is not a match with the passage. The two questions are not offered to benefit the proponents of the dominance theory. The questions are things academics should consider when studying the impact of foreign TV shows.

BTW, when I was a teenager, I was a health volunteer in a rural Honduran village and the folks there did indeed gather round to watch the weekly Spanish-language soap opera (granted, it was probably Mexican, but it did serve to bring the village together).
