So here's how (E) works.

The treated chicks didn't get Salmonella. So the treatment worked!

But there was a consequence: Salmonella actually INHIBITS other bacteria. So when they DIDN'T develop the Salmonella, they didn't have the thing that PREVENTS them from getting the other bacteria. So they developed the other kinds of bacteria a week later! This is what (E) is saying.

As for the others:

(A) does what? Nothing. I don't know how this explains anything.

(B) So? What about the difference between the treated ones and the untreated ones?

(C) Same as (B)...what about the difference in the groups discussed in the stimulus?

(D) ...uh, explains nothing.

Hope this helps clarify!
