We hope that the first question will be Orientation. This one isn't, but generally a first question will still be testing pretty surface level stuff.
(A) rule 5 says that S must carry jazz.
(B) rule 2 says that T only carries rock and opera.
The others aren't as easy to get with only one rule. We needed to put together more of the game during the setup to understand why some of these are wrong.
Rule 2 says that T = 2.
Rule 3 says that S > T, so S > 2, meaning S = 3 or 4.
Rule 4 says that X has more than anyone else.
If X > S > T, and T = 2,
then we know that
x = 4, s = 3, t = 2
That's how we know that (D) is wrong. X has to carry all four types.
Because X carries all four types, X must carry jazz.
And rule 5 says that S carries jazz.
And rule 1 says that only stores carry jazz. We know who they are: X and S.
So, T, V, and Z cannot carry jazz.
That's how we know that (C) is wrong.
If V carried folk, rock, and opera
and rule 6 says that Z can't carry anything that V carries,
then Z would have to be left with jazz.
Since T, V, and Z can't carry jazz, (C) is wrong.
Another way to analyze (C) and (E) is simply this:
since V and Z can't carry jazz, there are only 3 types available for them.
Since they can't have any types in common, we'll either end up with
V Z
2 1
1 2
1 1
If we sorted out those numbers, we would know (C) is wrong because V has three things.
