(D) does not describe what the second paragraph does. Nowhere in there does the author make a prediction. S/he does use the word "predict", but only to expound on DC's use of the two terms.

(C) The author's thesis is that by studying DC terminology we can learn what DC is all about. In the 2nd para the author gives us an initial example of that general thesis by discussing the implications of two DC terms--s/he begins to deconstruct deconstructionism.

Indeed! No prediction is made in paragraph 2.

What exactly does "qualifies a claim made earlier by the author" mean in choice B?

Qualifying a claim means to add some exception/caveat to a general statement, or to restrict the scope under which the original claim applied.

For example:
unqualified statement: I hate musicals
qualified statement: I hate musicals, other than 'The Sound of Music'

unqualified statement: I hate jazz
qualified statement: I hate jazz, well, at least the type that involves long free-form jamming.

make sense?

Ohhh. I thought qualifier mean that it gave support to the author's claim. If qualify meant support, would I be right in choosing it?
