Specifically which lines should I refer to in order to answer the question to correct choice E?

Thanks for posting, valjohnson948!

You're focused on exactly what you should be - looking for specific line references to support the correct answer. For any Identification question, we can rest assured that the correct answer has specific and explicit line support.

In this case, we get information to answer the question of what the perceived advantages were in lines 29-32. The old methods were replaced by new ones that were "simpler, cheaper, faster, and more consistent in their results." This fully supports an answer to the question posed in (E)!

We Can't Answer That!
(A)
The passage only discusses early techniques that have been revived.
(B) The passage refers to this chemical emulsion, but never specifies its chemical makeup.
(C) The passage tells us that some photographers are making pinhole cameras (line 21), but doesn't tell us who they are.
(D) The passage refers to egg white coating (lines 20-21), but never specifies the effect of this technique.

Keep that focus on finding line support! If you struggle with knowing where to look in the passage to support an idea, evaluate how you are building your passage map. A well-constructed passage map should help you know where to go digging!

Please let me know if this completely answers your question!

I found choice (D) very tempting. I did locate lines 20-23 for this choice. However, the text mentions "coating paper with egg whites" along with other techniques to create "new expressive effects". Can we consider these "new expressive effects" come from egg white?

I guess choice (D) is wrong with two reasons - (1)the expressive effects are not produced by egg white alone, and (2)they are effects, not an effect as in choice (D). Any comment is appreciated.

Are there general strategies towards answering these types of really broad questions? I personally find these questions the most challenging on RC because the stems do not themselves lend you to focus on a specific part of the passage (e.g. it is not asking what does the passage answer about the tintype process where we know we just need to look at P1) . Instead it leaves it broad where unless we recall if this was ever mentioned it is like finding a needle in the haystack where the sentence to eliminate the choice could be anywhere in the passage, which I find time consuming and end up answering based of memory or just skipping it.

Are there any specific strategies to cope with such open ended questions and would you recommend answering this question "first" when you first see it sequentially or would you recommend we treat it like those really broad unconditional Logic Game questions where we answer it last based of "previous work". Currently I have started answering these questions closer to "last" where in latter questions when I cross reference a specific section I will go back to this question and eliminate a choice but sometimes it does not always work and the time pressure feels greater than Logic Games
