Lets look at the difference between answer choices (B) and (D). This is how we make the final elimination when we are torn between two answers. Answer choice (B) states that that the two views in the preceding paragraphs are correct, whereas answer choice (D) states that the author holds an alternative view.
The author states in lines 35-36 that the views previously expressed are in need of correction, lending support to answer choice (D). Answer choice (B) goes awry by suggesting that the views in the 2nd and 3rd paragraphs are "correct."
Incorrect Answers
(A) contradicts the passage. The author does not think that reconciliation is implausible at all.
(B) contradicts the passage. The author does not believe the two views are correct.
(C) contradicts the passage. The author never suggests that either of the two extreme views are correct.
(E) is unsupported. The author is not offering examples of the previously expressed views but rather a recommendation for reconciling science and the humanities.
