If there's one parent, and rule 1 says there's only one student.
So that means the rest of our five person committee will be three teachers.

Picking 3 of 4 teachers is more limited than picking 1 of 3 kids, or 1 of 3 parents.

So let's start by thinking about who are 3 teachers would be. Since U and W can't both be selected, we know that the 3 teachers will include one of them but not both of them.

Let's write out our three teachers:
U/W, X, and Z

We could check our answers at this point to see if any answer says X or Z, since we know those two have to be in.

(E) says X, so (E) is correct.

(incidentally, you can eliminate (A) and (B) right away because K and L are "twins" ... they're both floaters and both students. They're interchangeable in this game, so there's no way that something MUST be true about one of them that wouldn't also be true about the other one.)
