Q1

by ganbayou Fri Jul 10, 2015 10:48 am

Hi,

I was not sure between B and D. I thought since they do not have to predetermine categories, actually one literature can have both characteristics and it can be both novels and autobiographies. And D says "most" too, so I thought it is the answer...why is D wrong?

Thank you

We're being asked what Mphahlele would agree with.

We don't know what Mphahlele about what MOST works of literature that are novels actually are. While he thinks that "no writer can write complete fiction or absolute fact" (line 45), this is different than saying he thinks most novels could be called autobiographies. (B) is a tempered version of (D) and a statement that we can have more confidence Mphahlele would agree with. (D), in other words, is too extreme.

So is (A) ("All)
And so is (C) ("Only"—we do no have support for this)
And finally, (E) is out of scope
