why can't D be the answer? sambar deer could be feeding on the undigested food remaining in box turtles' body...

That is a jump from what this answer choice says. It simply says that the turtles compete for the same food as the deer. That is not answering our paradox as to why is it that this type of deer cannot digest meat yet was seen eating a turtle.

Answer choice A is perfect. It lets us know that although it was eating the turtle, it was the bones and not the meat.
