Q4 - Conservationists Have Established Land

by YiX773 Thu Apr 23, 2020 5:49 am

The correct answer (A) confuses me.

We know from the stimulus that "if global warming occurs as predicted, however, the temperature bands within which various types of vegetation can grow will shift into regions that are currently cooler", but how do we know that the temperature bands where the reserve lies will shift, too? Maybe this temperature band has no vegetation and somehow is not affected by the global warming at all.

What do you think?

Hi YiX773,

My take on this is that is that the LSAT writers are assuming some basic common sense here with this question. As in that Mexico would typically be warmer than North America. As such, due to global warming, the land reserves such as the one in Mexico (warmer region), would then shift towards North America (cooler region). This would then nullify the purpose of the reserve, if its no longer the last remaining habitat for organisms, as there are now habitat (e.g. grove trees) which has spread into North America.

As with other Most Strongly Supported questions, the support for the correct answer doesn't have to be 100% air-tight, there can be very slight gaps that may not entirely explain the correct answer choice.

Thank you,

Ryan
